May–June or September–October (shoulder seasons). Temperatures cooler and more comfortable (average highs ~77–82°F / 25–28°C), fewer crowds, lower prices than high season. June–August is Rio's winter: drier, mild, good for sightseeing. Avoid January–March if not attending Carnival (peak humidity, heavy rain, highest prices). Those wanting Carnival should arrive mid-February
